Overview
Eastern Towhees are famous for their loud song often described as sounding like "drink-your-teeeee!" They spend most of their time in dense undergrowth of shrubby habitat foraging for seeds, fruits, and insects. They build cup-shaped nests on the ground under shrubs or in thick leaf litter.
Conservation
Eastern Towhees are considered a species of special conservation need in Vermont due loss of habitat. Their shrubland habitat is rapidly disappearing as former agricultural land grows into mature forests.
